Matan Launches Inaugural Lieberman Fellowship for Jewish Organizations Serving Young Adults

by Jennie Gates Beckman, Programs and Partnerships Manager

The Lieberman Fellowship for Jewish Organizations Serving Young Adults officially launched with a virtual gathering on Thursday, September 5th.

The impetus for this new program came from continuous feedback that despite the plethora of Jewish communal programming geared towards young adults, people with disabilities often find it difficult to ‘fit in’ or lend their talents in these settings. Matan believes that young adults with and without disabilities all benefit by sharing meaningful experiences in Jewish life.

This fellowship includes in-person training, remote learning opportunities, and both individual and group mentorship. Each organization has assembled a team of two to four members comprised of both professionals and lay leaders interested in advancing disability inclusion in their existing programming and operations.

The Lieberman Fellowship for Jewish Organizations Serving Young Adults is made possible by the generosity of Jerry and Eileen Lieberman. The 2024-2025 cohort is being presented in partnership with The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.

We look forward to working with the following synagogues and organizations selected for this inaugural cohort in the DC/Maryland/Northern Virginia metro-area, often referenced as “the DMV”:

B’nai Israel Congregation – Rockville, MD

Bender JCC of Greater Washington – Rockville, MD

Edlavitch DCJCC – Washington, DC

GatherDC – Washington, DC

Moishe House – national and local DMV participants

OneTable – national with local DMV participants

Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia– Fairfax, VA

Sixth & I – Washington, DC

Temple Rodef Shalom – Falls Church, VA
