This fall, Matan released a new national report, Closing the Inclusion Gap, offering a clear look at the current state of disability inclusion across Jewish institutions. Grounded in Matan’s work with Federations, synagogues, schools, camps, and communal organizations across North America, the report highlights both meaningful progress and the persistent gaps that continue to limit full participation, leadership, and belonging for Jews with disabilities.
The findings underscore an important truth: intention alone is not enough. While many organizations express a desire to be inclusive, too often they lack the policies, training, resources, and accountability needed to translate values into practice. The report points toward what comes next – practical, systemic steps that can move communities from aspiration to action.
The report and its themes were featured in eJewishPhilanthropy, helping bring this conversation to a wider communal audience and reinforcing why disability inclusion must remain a central priority in Jewish life today.
For Matan, this moment is about more than raising awareness. It’s about using data, lived experience, and partnership to help communities build environments where everyone can participate meaningfully – across the lifespan and across every corner of Jewish life.
