MADI: A National Movement for Inclusion

One of the most exciting developments this year has been the launch of the Matan Alliance for Disability Inclusion (MADI), a new national initiative helping Jewish organizations move from good intentions to meaningful action.

MADI grew directly out of the conversations sparked by Closing the Inclusion Gap, Matan’s landmark report examining the current state of disability inclusion in Jewish communal life. The report resonated with synagogues, Federations, and other Jewish communal organizations because it put words to something many leaders already knew: while the commitment to inclusion is strong, many organizations are looking for practical guidance on how to make it a reality.

MADI was created to meet that need. As the first national framework of its kind, MADI provides organizations with practical tools, training, coaching, and a clear pathway for building more welcoming, accessible, and inclusive communities. Rather than viewing inclusion as a one-time initiative, MADI helps organizations embed it into their culture, policies, and everyday practices.

Since launching this spring, organizations across North America have already joined the growing network of MADI Allies, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring that every person can participate fully in Jewish life. Together, we are building a community where disability inclusion is not the responsibility of a few passionate individuals, but a shared commitment across the Jewish communal landscape.
