At Matan, we often say that disability inclusion isn’t a separate issue, it’swoven into every aspect of Jewish communal life. This year, we’ve been intentional about building stronger connections between disability inclusion and other movements working toward a more equitable, and welcoming Jewish community.
This spring, Rabbi Ruti Regan represented Matan at the SRE Network Convening, joining a panel exploring the question, “Who Can Thrive? Disability, Class, and Gender in Jewish Communal Work.” The conversation brought together leaders from across the Jewish social justice landscape to examine how organizations can better recognize and remove barriers to leadership and belonging.
We’re also thrilled to share that Meredith has been selected as a member of the next cohort of The Collective, Elluminate’s leadership program for women driving social change in the Jewish community. The program brings together women leaders from a wide range of Jewish organizations committed to justice, equity, and systemic change.
Disability intersects withevery community and every identity, including gender, race, LGBTQ+ identity, aging, mental health, and socioeconomic status. By engaging with leadersacross these areas, we’re helping ensure that disability is part of the broader conversation about who belongs and how we create Jewish communities where everyone can thrive.
